Ashfaque Sayed is the best known darts player from India ever since darts was initiated in India. Ashfaque took up his darts for the 1st time in the summer of 2003 in his hometown of Pune near Mumbai - when darts was being introduced by AIDA ( All India Darts Association ) represented by a dynamic Professional from Kolkota Mr. Prasanta Saha. With Mr. Saha’s leadership, India became a member of the World darts Association in 2004.
In a short span of time Ashfaque has emerged successful in all the singles and doubles titles that he participated for, in India at the State as well as the National level. Currently holds 5 national singles, 6 Men’s Doubles titles & 1 Mixed Doubles Title.
Considering India’s Infancy in the International arena in order to gain experience and exposure he participated in the Singapore Open 2005 , was a member of the Indian Team for its maiden world cup appearance at Perth- Australia in 2005 , played in the Pacific Masters Cup at Perth –Australia .He obtained a ranking of 108 at the world cup event .He along with his wife Ayesha a succesfull ladies player currently India Ranking no 2 is representing India at the Asia Pacific Cup as well as in the Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur in Sept 2006.
Ashfaque and Ayesha are dedicated to the sport of darts and do not miss a single days practice ever since they were hooked to the game . They have made efforts to introduce the game to youngsters in certain schools where they go and let every student experience the sport and by throwing a dart pin and give it a try ! He philosophically says unless one plays and experiences this sport ( like he did !!!) one would never be hooked to it. Being Passionate about darts he learnt and keeps learning from visiting thousands of darts websites picking up every nitty gritty information he lays his eyes on . He strongly believes in sharing his knowledge with fellow players as well as his competitors in India .
His ambition is to win a major international title to begin with which will lay a foundation not only for him but for many talented players from his country and he believes firmly this will also place India on the darts world map !!!
